“After dealing with several random HVAC issues, Design Flow figured out that our heat pump was functioning properly, but the air flow in the house was not. To resolve the issue and help to keep the heat from escaping, we had our crawl space duct work wrapped and flexible vents replaced to bring them up to code. The other replacement involved creating a new plenem off the top of the heat pump to direct the air flow down the ducts. The current plenum causes the air to hit the top of it and then make a right angle before flowing down the ducts. This is where Brian, the owner of Design Flow, puts his designing skills to work. He created the new phlenem out of sheet metal with curved baffles inside that allow the supply air to flow out of the heat pump and send it directly throughout the house. Another adjustment involved removing a 2nd vent line to the kitchen that was installed right off the plenem – this removal has allowed more air to reach the rest of the house and allows our system to work more efficiently. Mike & Hunter, who made the adjustments were great. Their work skills are excellent, and they left the place as clean as they found it. Thank you Design Flow!!”

No matter what climate you live in, the temperature throughout the year varies. For some climates that means blazing summers that cool to frigid winters. What many people don’t realize is that the temperature below ground (regardless of climate or season) stays fairly consistent all year. While air temperatures can vary greatly from day to night or winter to summer, the temperature just a few feet below the earth’s surface stays an average 55°–70°F year-round.
Your helpful neighbor suggested the issue you are having with your gas furnace sounds like it could be due to a cracked heat exchanger. What is a heat exchanger? How can you tell if this is the issue? What should you do about it?
Just about any electrical appliance has the potential to overheat, and furnaces are no exception. As a homeowner, you need to take precautions to lower the risk of an overheated unit. You should also be wary of the associated symptoms so you know when to take action.
